Monthly Club News
December 2018:
This month work is centred on
improving our existing layouts
On Dagnell End and Smallwood we are
making scenery improvements and on Oakenshaw we are
wiring up the signals so they all work. Also a new
project has arrived at the Club a new Scottish Region
shed layout that is owned by a Club member and once
complete will be exhibited under the Club banner.
November 2018:
We started the month by completing
our club room works. With the extra floor in the club
room we have improved how we store our layouts and
created a library area for members to use. Work has
continued on the improvement to our Dagnell End layout
and we have taken the opportunity to relay a short
section of track which was causing problems at the
exhibition we took the layout to. We had an enjoyable
weekend at the Warley Model Railway Exhibition over the
weekend of the 24th and 25th November with our display
stand. This year we once again incorporated our
Barrie Island into the display which was very well
received by the visitors.
October 2018:
Work has continued on our club room
improvements. We had a great weekend exhibiting our
Buckshee layout at the Great Electric Train Show over
the weekend of the 13th and 14th October. This
exhibition was at the new venue of the MK Arena in
Milton Keynes. This was was the second time we have
exhibited a layout in that town this year. We have to
say we were looked after far better by the team from
Hornby Magazine than we were earlier in the year !
September 2018:
We staged our 45th Redditch
Model Railway Exhibition over the weekend of the 16th
and 17th September and thank you to all that attended.
The exhibition proved to be one our best attended show
in recent years. Work has continued on he club room
improvements.
August 2018 :
Work continues on our club room
improvements with the majority of the walling for the
second floor extension now installed.
July 2018 :
We start July off with major work on our club room. It
has been in planning for many months and the 1st phase
is complete and we have installed a set of stairs and
some key floor joists so as to create a large
storage area in the roof of our club room.
June 2018:
Friday 1st June 2018 marked the
51st
anniversary of the formation of the Redditch Model
Railway Club. On the evening of Thursday 1st June 1967 a
meeting was held at the White Hart Public House in
Headless Cross in Redditch which resulted in the
Redditch Model Railway Club being formed. The Club's
Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 5th June once again
provided few surprises and the Committee where
re-elected apart from Rob Jones who stood down. Pete Hancox was elected as the
replacement Chairman. We had a very enjoyable 3 days
from the 15th to 17th June exhibiting our Oakenshaw
layout at the Great Central Railway.
May 2018 :
We started the month by completing
the installation of large casters to the supporting legs
on our Smallwood layout. We can now easily move the layout
around and into and out of the club room. The casters
have brakes so when used the layout is as stable as it
would be on normal legs. We have also added a shelf in the
fiddle yard. Other projects include a minor
refurbishment of our Dagnell End layout. Work includes
refitting all of the third rail to lower the height of
it to avoid catching the stock running on the layout and
improvement to the scenery. Plans are also afoot to make some improvements
to our club room to improve the amount of storage we
have.
April 2018 :
We have continued to make
improvements to the electrics on our Smallwood layout.
We had a great weekend in the company of Westerns, Class
50's and Class 37's in the diesel shed at the Severn
Valley Railway exhibiting our Dagnell End layout on the
7th and 8th April. We had a get month at the Forge Mill
Museum with our Pop up Model Railway Show and thank you
to all those that supported this event. We understand
our event help to increase overall visitor numbers to
the museum.
March 2018:
We started the month with the club
not meeting on Thursday 1st March due to heavy snow.
Work this month has concentrated this month on getting
our Smallwood layout to work better electrically.
On Thursday 22nd March we opened our pop up model
railway show at the Forge Mill Museum. It was open until
22nd April 2018.
February 2018 :
We start the month by taking our
Arrowmouth layout to the Stafford Model Railway
Exhibition over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of
February. As usual Arrowmouth was well received with
both the visitors and exhibition managers as we left the
show with three potential further
exhibition bookings for the layout
in the coming years. We exhibited our Chilcompton layout
at the Milton Keynes Model Railway Exhibition on the
10th February 2018.
January 2018:
We start 2018 with work continuing
on our Smallwood layout and preparing our Arrowmouth
layout for the Stafford Model Railway Exhibition in
February 2018.
