Barrie Island Rebuilding Photographs to create Mark
III
When the Covid
Lockdown started in March 2020
Barrie Island was put into storage so as to reduce contact
between Club Members in line with national Covid
restrictions.
Even before the lockdowns it had become apparent
that that whilst functional the Mark II version
of Barrie Island was too heavy and cumbersome to
move around so
a plan was drawn up to solve this.
Building on
the recent experience in baseboard construction
for other layouts such as Norgrove a Mark III
version of the test tack was created using plywood instead
of chipboard for the baseboards. This new version has its own
folding legs and trolley to transport it on. It is
also of a size that it can be be easily stored
in the club rooms when not in use.
Agreement on the plan for the new layout was
reached at
a Members Meeting in March 2022 and work started soon
afterwards:
The timber arrived in the Club room cut up and
ready to assemble on 29th March 2022
The basic board was assembled on 31st
March 2022
Bracing
was added on the 5th April 2022
