Redditch
Dial and Ride which is operated by Redditch Borough
Council and have been providing a door to door service
for those in Redditch who find it difficult to use
conventional public transport for well over 20 years.
This service operates on community bus permits and uses
a number of tail lift minibuses to provide the service.
The service is managed from the Redditch Shop mobility
service which is based on the ground floor of the Car
Park 3 in the town centre. The vehicles are garaged at
the Council’s Cross Gate depot on the Park Farm
Industrial Estate. The Shop Mobility service provides
wheelchairs and motor scoters for shoppers to use whilst
at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and was the first of
its kind in the Country. In September 2014 the Dial a
Ride service further expanded its operation by taking
over two bus routes the 53 to Plymouth Road and the 65
to Abbeydale and for this service it acquired an Optare
Alero. The Alero is the the Optare Solo’s little sister
and was designed to operate on routes too large for the
Solo type vehicle. This was not the first bus route to
be operated by the Dial a Ride service having run a
service 52 from Webheath to Abbey Stadium which was
withdrawn in September due to poor usage.
